May 28-30, 2011 the George Phippen Memorial Foundation and the Phippen Museum in Prescott, Arizona celebrated the 37th Annual Phippen Memorial Western Art Show and Sale on the grounds of the historic Courthouse Plaza. This highly anticipated annual event continues to be Arizona’s premier outdoor Western Art Show.
The weekend of events featured over 120 western artists from all over North America in the Show and Sale on the Courthouse Plaza; “Quick Draw” art demonstrations of artwork created in 45 minutes and then auctioned to the crowd; and last but not least, the Miniature Masterpieces Art Show and Sale.
The Denim to Diamonds Gala held Saturday night, featured a cocktail reception, music, dinner, awards and a live art auction, where Dave Powell, on behalf of the Joe Beeler Foundation, presented Edgar Sotelo with The Joe Beeler Scholarship Award. CAs John Coleman, Bill Nebeker, Bill Owen and Dave Powell selected Edgar as the recipient from the 120 artists who participated in the Show. Congratulations, Edgar!
The Joe Beeler Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, founded by the Cowboy Artists of America. The purpose of the organization is to raise monies in order to provide scholarships to promising Western artists, so they may attend workshops conducted by Active CAA Members. The foundation is named after Joe Beeler, one of the founding fathers of the CAA, and these scholarships are presented in Joe’s honor and in the same giving spirit Joe was known to possess. It is the CAs sincere desire that these scholarships are received in the spirit in which they are given.
