The Frontier Project

A.J. Mangum, longtime friend of the CAs, and editor of Western Horseman magazine for most of the past decade, has launched a new venture. A monthly documentary film series on the North American cowboy culture called The Frontier Project, the series will include segments on the horsemen, craftsmen and artists defining the contemporary American West.

The series' editorial mission will be driven, not by marketing or advertising, but by the need to share the stories of influential westerners, as well as the West's unsung heroes and heroines, and will use an "up close and personal" storytelling approach that puts its subjects front and center, allowing them to tell their own stories in their own words.

The 80-minute debut episode of The Frontier Project is expected to be released December 23, 2010 and will include a 20-minute segment with CAA Active Member Harley Brown. He discusses his biography and artistic process, as well as ideas on design and style. He also offers some insight on specific pieces of art in his home collection; and eclectic mix, including a lot of non-western art.

Episode two should include a 20 to 30-minute segment with CAA Emeritus Member Herb Mignery. It is planned that future episodes will include each of the remaining CAA members. The CAs extends best wishes to A.J. in this new venture and look forward to participating.
