Wrangler Award at the 50th Western Heritage Awards

In December 2007, the Lougheed Studio opened its doors as a Gallery/Museum devoted to the life, legacy, and research of Robert E. Lougheed. Located adjacent to Claggett/Rey Gallery in Vail, Colorado, the Estate includes hundreds of paintings, thousands of drawings, art and history books, research photos and slides, artifacts, writings, financial records, awards, medals, copyrights and illustrations. The Robert Lougheed Studio, now on permanent display is a loose re-creation of Lougheed's Santa Fe Studio.

In 2009 the Robert Lougheed website was launched to chronicle his life and achievements, and details his career as an artist. A member of Cowboy Artists of America from 1967 until his death in 1982, Lougheed's career spanned 50 years before he passed at the age of 72.

In January 2010, Bill Rey and Ray Duncan, of Diamond Tail Press and both Honorary Members of Cowboy Artists of America, published, Robert Lougheed Follow the Sun, written by fellow Honorary CAA Member, Don Hedgpeth. It has just been announced the book has been selected to receive the 2011 Western Heritage Literary Award for Best Art Book.

This will be the second time Diamond Tail Press and Don Hedgpeth have won this highly prized award. The first time was in 2005 after publishing their book about the last surviving Founding Father of the Cowboy Artists of America, titled, Joe Beeler: Life of a Cowboy Artist.

Diamond Tail Press and Don Hedgpeth will receive the coveted Wrangler Award at the 50th Western Heritage Awards to be held April 15th and 16th at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

The Cowboy Artists of America members wish to congratulate their fellow CAs on this prestigious award!
