Jason Scull's dream of being a Western artist began in earnest when he was 14. His admiration for the Cowboy Artists of America was fueled by a copy of "The Joe Beeler Sketchbook" that his parents gave him for his 16th birthday. Twenty-five years into his professional art career, Jason's dream of becoming a CAA came true.

He studied Animal Science at Texas A&M, but his art education came through CAA Museum workshops with two of his closest mentors being Jack Swanson and Mehl Lawson. The inspiration for his subject matter comes from the life he experienced growing up farming and ranching with his family on the fringes of the South Texas brush country as well as his interest in the history of ranching. His ancestors were early settlers in Texas arriving in the mid 1820's where they ranched, raised families, fought wars, and carved a place in the American West. His sculpture portrays the ranch people of South Texas and characters of the borderlands of the great Southwest.

Jason's work resides in private and public collections across America, Canada, and Great Britain. His monuments include an equestrian sculpture of early Texas Ranger John C. "Jack" Hays located in San Marcos, Texas; an equine group of three running horses and a colt for Gaylord Hotels, located at the Gaylord Texan, Grapevine, Texas; a seven foot figure for Commercial Metals Company located in Seguin, Texas and Caycee, South Carolina; and his current piece, a Spanish Colonial Vaquero and Longhorn cow and calf for the City of McAllen, Texas that will be sited at the McAllen Convention Center.

Jason, Dianne, and their son Will make their home in Fort Collins, Colorado with his studio being located in Loveland. Now that his dream is a reality, there is a lot to live up to as a member of the CAA. Jason says he looks forward to and is honored by the challenge.
